PFNL Executive Board Positions
Elected Roles
The President
The President makes sure that the meetings run smoothly and on time so that all the work gets done. He or she makes sure that everyone has a chance to talk and that only one person speaks at a time. The President works with national staff to make up the agenda for meetings and makes sure that everything is on the agenda that the group needs to talk about.
The President also speaks for the board in meetings with other groups or when meeting with representatives from the government. The President can ask another board member to speak for the board but it is up to the President to decide if that is best.
The President is responsible for writing a President’s report to be presented at every Board of Directors meeting.
The President must be able to make the time commitment to the role. The President should be able to delegate duties as needed, within reason. The President’s role will act as a mentor (to teach and guide) for other members.
The President supports other board members and helps them to understand if they are not sure about what the board is working on. The President is the chief leader on the Board of Directors.
The Vice President
The Vice-President is also one of the leaders on the Board of Directors. He or she helps the President with some of the important work that the President has to do. Sometimes there is more work to do than the President can do at one time so the President can ask the Vice President to take over some of the work. The Vice-President will fill the role of President if the President is unable to perform their duties, or needs to pass the Chair. If the President leaves their position during their term, the Vice-President would assume the Presidential position as an interim President until the next election.
The Treasurer
The Treasurer is the Board member who pays attention to how People First NL is getting and spending the money it needs to do the work of the organization. The Treasurer reports to the rest of the Board on how much money People First NL has in the bank and what the organization is spending its money on. The Treasurer usually needs to have some money skills.
Member At Large
A Member at Large is a board member who represents the general membership. They work with the board to make sure that the members' and overall organization goals are being met. Duties can also include providing support to other executive members.
Past President
The role of the past-president is to act as a mentor for the new President. It is mandatory that the Past-president be available and to assist the new president in their role for at least the first year of their term. The past-president is usually the Chairperson for the Nomination committee when there are elections.
